# Reading a Bar Chart

Math story 84 · Word problems · Grade 4 · 0:39

## Read the story

A class voted: which fruit do you like best?

The bar chart shows the result. On the side, we read how many children chose each one.

The apple bar goes up to 12, the banana bar up to 8.

12 minus 8 is 4. So 4 more children like apples than bananas.

**The cherry bar goes up to 14, the grape bar up to 6. How many more children like cherries?**

## Answer and working

Correct! 14 minus 6 is 8. 8 more children like cherries.

`14 − 6 = 8`
