See the whole and its two parts
Each number bond shows how one whole is composed of two parts. A clear missing node gives children room to record the whole or part that completes the relationship.
If the whole is 12 and one part is 5, write 7 in the other part’s circle. If 5 and 7 are both shown below, write 12 in the whole’s circle. Ask the child to identify the whole before filling a blank.
