Make groups of ten
Multiplying by 10 tells you how many objects are in equal groups of ten. Six groups contain six tens, and six tens make 60. That is why 10 × 6 = 60.
Use place value to understand the pattern
For these whole-number facts, each group adds another ten. The number of tens becomes the tens value in the answer: eight groups of ten make 80. You may notice that the written answers end in zero, but the groups and place value explain why that happens.
