Multiply by 2 means double it
Two times a number makes two equal groups. For 2 × 6, picture two groups of six. Adding the groups gives 6 + 6 = 12, so 2 × 6 = 12. The multiplication fact and the familiar double describe the same total.
Build from doubles you know
Start with a double that already feels easy, then use it to recall the matching 2 times table fact. If double 8 is 16, then two groups of eight also make 16. Understanding that connection makes practice more than memorising a list.
