How a math story works

  1. Listen and watch. Theo tells a short story from the farmyard: Mama Hen, Papa Rooster and the little chick collect eggs, bake muffins, pick flowers or share pancakes.
  2. Solve it yourself. When the question comes, the video pauses. Your child types an answer and gets feedback right away.
  3. See the working. Then the video continues and shows the answer together with the matching equation.

Why word problems as stories?

Many children can already calculate well but find it hard to turn a story into the right equation. That is exactly the step these videos practise: What do I know? What is the question? Which operation fits? Pictures, counting panels and a calm voice also help children who are not yet reading fluently.

Each video lasts about half a minute and asks exactly one question. That keeps the focus on the math – and there is always time for one more.

Tips for parents

  • Ask your child to repeat the question in their own words before answering.
  • Drawing, using objects or counting on fingers is absolutely fine.
  • If the first answer is not right yet, encourage a second try before the solution plays.
  • Choose your child’s grade above to see matching stories. Grades are a guide, not a curriculum.

Your child's answers stay on this device. They are neither saved nor sent anywhere, and no sign-up is needed.
