Numbers to a Million Worksheet
Two A4 pages: six-digit numbers in a place value chart, expanded form, digit values, neighboring thousands, ordering and a number line.
What is on the worksheet?
The example at the top writes a six-digit number in a place value chart, from hundred thousands down to ones. Task 1 reads numbers from the chart, and task 2 builds numbers from expanded form. Task 3 asks what a digit is worth in its place. In task 4 your child writes the thousand just before and just after a number, and task 5 puts five large numbers in order. A brain teaser – the largest and smallest six-digit number from given digits – and a number line with missing numbers finish page 1. Page 2 has all the answers.
Large numbers are written with commas between the groups of three digits, as in US classrooms.
Who is it for?
Grade 4, when the number range grows to a million.
How to use it
Read the numbers aloud first. Saying a six-digit number in words shows quickly whether every place is understood.
