Telling Time Worksheet
Two A4 pages: reading analog clocks, converting hours, minutes and seconds, elapsed time, start and end times and an answer key.
What is on the worksheet?
The example at the top converts hours into minutes. In task 1 your child reads the time on three analog clocks. Task 2 converts between hours, minutes and seconds. Task 3 works out how long something takes: first to the full hour, then on. Tasks 4 and 5 find the end time or the start time from a duration. A brain teaser about a night’s sleep and four clocks to draw the hands on finish page 1. Page 2 has all the answers.
Who is it for?
Grades 3 and 4, when children tell time to the minute and solve elapsed time problems.
How to use it
For elapsed time, count to the next full hour first and then add the rest. A quick sketch of a timeline helps.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Page 2 shows every answer and a short note for parents and teachers. You can leave it out when you print.
Can I get new problems?
Yes. “New numbers” opens the worksheet generator with the same topic and new numbers, as often as you like.
Does the worksheet use a.m. and p.m.?
Yes. The elapsed time problems use 12-hour times with a.m. and p.m.; the clocks to draw show times without them.
